You stare at a draft for too long, and you lose perspective. You think a sentence is funny, but it's actually confusing. You think a paragraph is necessary, but it's actually boring.
Every professional writer has an editor. A ruthless editor who tells them the truth.
You might not have a budget for a human editor, but you can force AI to play that role. Most people use AI to write. I want you to use AI to critique.
The 'Roast My Draft' prompt
This prompt requires a thick skin. It works wonders.
The Prompt:
"Act as a ruthless, expert editor. I am going to show you a draft LinkedIn post.
Do not rewrite it yet. First, I want you to critique it:
1 - The Boring Test: Point out the specific sentence where a reader is most likely to stop reading.
2 - The Jargon Hunt: List any words that are too complex or corporate.
3 - The Clarity Check: Is the main message clear? If not, what is confusing?
Be harsh. I want to improve."
Why this works
This prompt forces you to look at your work objectively. It helps you "Kill your darlings"—removing the parts you love but that don't serve the reader.
With Stix, our "Human-in-the-Loop" philosophy is built on this. We want technology to suggest improvements, but we want you to make the final call.
