Stop asking 'Thoughts?': the prompt for better engagement

You write a great post. You get to the end. You want comments. So you write the two deadliest words on LinkedIn: 'Thoughts?'

"Thoughts?" is a lazy Call to Action (CTA). It puts all the cognitive load on the reader. You are asking them to come up with a topic, form an opinion, and write it down. That is too much work.

If you want comments, you need to reduce the friction. You need to leverage Social Reciprocity. If you ask a specific, easy-to-answer question, people feel a compulsion to answer.

Don't ask for an essay. Ask for a vote. Ask for a "Yes/No." Ask for a personal experience.

The 'Comment Bait' prompt

Use this prompt to generate CTAs that actually trigger a debate.

The Prompt:

"Read the post below. I need a Call to Action (CTA) at the end that encourages comments.

Generate 3 options for a closing question:

1 - The Debate: A question asking them to pick between two sides (e.g., 'Do you prefer A or B?').
2 - The Experience: Asking if they have ever faced this specific problem.
3 - The Add-on: Asking them to add one tip of their own.

Keep the questions short and easy to answer."

Examples

- Instead of "Thoughts?", try: "Have you ever fired a client? Yes or No?"
- Instead of "What do you think about AI?", try: "Are you using AI for writing, or just for research?"

Specific questions get specific answers. Vague questions get silence.
